Let’s talk about Roth (conversion)
Autumn is already here, and before you know it the year will be coming to a close. As you know, we have until 12/31 for Roth conversions. Roth conversions differ from contributions and can be done regardless of whether you have working income. While they involve pulling income and taxes forward, they can provide tax mitigation down the road and are a useful planning tool. If we’ve been talking about this but haven’t completed your conversion for 2021, please give our office a call so we have plenty of time before year-end.
The Big Picture
From time to time we get questions from you, our clients, about inflation, cryptocurrency (or blockchain, “defi,” etc.), proposed tax reforms, and overall market risk. We are always happy to discuss any or all of these topics with you and how they might affect your financial plan. But we can also recommend quality sources for you, if you would like to read up on your own. For a balanced and informative discussion of inflation, check out Joe Wiesenthal, Executive Director of Digital News at Bloomberg. He co-hosts the Odd Lots Podcast with Tracy Alloway and is the co-host of “What’d You Miss?” on Bloomberg Television. You can find him here: https://www.bloomberg.com/authors/AQ0VXvE12t0/joe-weisenthal
For a very thorough rundown of everything crypto, I can provide you with copies of articles from the August/September 2021 issue of Fortune. You can certainly find the issue online, but you’ll hit the paywall.
If you are concerned about pending tax legislation, first keep in mind that a bill that starts in the House rarely looks the same by the time it gets through the Senate and finally becomes law. In addition, most of the reforms currently under discussion target a very small percentage of earners. We are happy to discuss any concerns you have about how these proposals might impact your planning.
Employer-Sponsored Retirement Plan Meetings
Thinking about your retirement plan contributions? Maybe you’d like to increase your payroll deduction, or perhaps you’d like to enroll in your employer’s plan. It’s that time of year again, folks, and I’ll be scheduling onsite visits. If I don’t get a chance to meet with you one-on-one, let’s schedule a phone meeting. You can call my office, and Rheagan can get you on our calendar. If you are an employer sponsoring a SIMPLE IRA plan, please remember to obtain your Form 5304-SIMPLE or Form 5305-SIMPLE from us so you are ready for the 60-day election period (Nov 1-Dec 31).
